The Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors hosted its fifth Chip Seal Conference in Hood River, March 21 and 22. More than 100 road officials, public works staff and vendors traveled from around the state, as well as Washington and Idaho, to learn about the latest products and technology, and share best practices and ideas regarding chip sealing.

The two-day event covered a number of topics related to chip sealing, including emulsions, oil types, oil rock production and operating the chip sealer itself. OACES would like to thank all of our members and presenters, especially Kevin Hamilton (Linn Co.), Tom Shamberger (Albina Asphalt) , and Scott Wilson (Marion Co.); as well as our sponsors, Albina Asphalt, Capitol Asset & Pavement Services, Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions, Inc., Knife River, PacWest Machinery, Sierra Santa Fe, and Western Emulsions, for helping to make this year’s conference a success.

OACES hosts chip seal conferences approximately every three years, with previous conferences held in 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2019. Past presentations can be viewed and downloaded here. You can learn more about future OACES conferences here.
